My great-great-grandfater James WARD and wife Julia WINTERS settle in Hood Co. after 1850. He probably died there circa 1865. His son John William WARD left there around 1877 to Brown Co. His wife Ann Catherine SEWELL died and he remarried to Mary SHOEMAKER. I don't know if the WARD family elsewhere in TX prior to 1850. They were living in AL in 1848. Anyone working on this family or related families? Let me hear from you.

Need information on Rachel Jewel Robertson, wife of Dr. Andrew Briggs Robertson. "History of Hood Co." states she was a widow but Andrew B. Robertson married Emily Spencer 14 Oct. 1863, Jefferson Co., TX. He also married Venitia Overdier,1 Feb. 188, Tangipahoa Par., LA. In a case. Milam Co. vs. Robertson, Rachel gives her married name as "Taylor" and her husband has abandoned her. He later marries Charles D. Doggett and dies in Mitchell Co. as Rachel P. Doggett, 12 Aug. 1906. Need divorce record from Dr. A. B. Robertson, marriage record of "Taylor" and Charles D. Doggett. Rachel and Andrew B. Robertson had several sons which were in ranching plus a daughter, Elizabeth who married Robert K. Wylie, also involved in ranching in Hood and Runnels Co. Their daughter was Mollie D. Abernathy, wife of Monroe G. Abernathy [1st husband, James William Jarrott, who was murdered in 1902]. Mollie lived in Lubbock Co. and invested in business property. Any information would be appreciated.

I'm looking for anyone with information on the Gurry family. My grandfather's brothers moved to Texas probably between 1870 and 1900. I saw that the name Gurry was in one of your historical books, so I though I'd take a chance on seeing if that was the same Gurry family. Names of the brothers who left Quebec, Canada, and established themselves as ranchers in Texas : Christopher Gurry, Peter Gurry and John Gurry. Also a nephew by the ? Bowles went to live with his uncle and never came back to Quebec. My Gurry family living in an Irish settlement in Quebec came from Dublin Ireland in the 1820's Thank you for any help.

In 12/4 Star Telegram, obit for Lorena Fay Henslee whose funeral services were 4th at Martin's and burial at Fall Creek. I am searching for information about my grandmother, Vena Green/Allison Covey born in Acton to May and E.M. Green in 1894. May and E.M died within 6 months of each other in 1899 and 1900 and are buried in Acton. Vena is living with her two brothers, Carl and Finis, in the 1900 census with their grandparents, John Carlton and Savannah Allison in Acton. Her Aunt and Uncle were Linnie Allison McClung and Ed Allison (married to Emma Duckworth) Vena married Houston Covey Sr. in 1916. My father, Houston Covey Jr. was born August 21, 1917 in Bluffdale. Vena died in Nov.1918 during the influenza epidemic. My grandfather told me she was buried in the Acton cemetery in her parents plot, but only has an unmarked grave as they did not have enough money for a headstone. I just went back to the 1900 census; the way I read it before a WOODWARD family was living next door; the census image I look at today appears very different?? The Woodwards are living w/J. J. DAVIS & son J. M. They are listed as not S. J. as on the Johnson 1880 census but J. S. and she is listed as his daughter; her husband is Dennis and their children Cora Bertee & Sister. 1880 Johnson Co census reveals unknown half siblings to my grt gm; do not know where they are after that date & place but as their father was in Hood Co 1900 along with my grt gm's brother we knew of, perhaps they also went to Hood Co. I was told my husband's g grandmother Willie May ABLE(S) was b. 4 Mar 1885 in Glen Rose, Somervell Co., TX which is now part of Hood Co. Her parents were: James C. ABLE & Mary Frances TIPPETT. My husband and my mother and I went to the Wells Cemetery in southern Hood county last week. It is sometimes called Elm Flat Cemetery. There are no signs to the cemetery and there is little care taken of it. We were interested in the Wells graves. (I had been told that there were none in the cemetery.) We found the following: Lucinda Wells, died 1889; William Alvin Wells 11/22/1878 - 5/8/1928; Exer Smith Wells 10/23/1884 - 7/4/1984; Stonewall Texas Wells, son of T. B. & E. E. Wells, 10/11/1876 - 11/2/1877; Alvin Peyton Wells, son of T. B. & E. E. Wells, 5/1/1875 - 11/8/1877. Does anyone have any information on these people? My grandfather told my mother that he had attended school in the late 1800's at the Brushy school. He was the son of James Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Terry) Wells who eventually settled in Brown county. Do any records from the Brushy school survive? How about any school census records. I've just found my grt-grt gf John Davis in the Hood Co 1900 on-line census. I had been told he and the children moved from Ellis Co where the children were born to Hood Co after the death of his wife Ann Pritchard Davis; was told she died around the time my grt gm Jennie Teresa Davis Cogburn was 9 which would have been abt. '96, but definitely moved after '81 as Jennie's younger brother Joe Monroe was born in Waxahachie that year. Also another sibling Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Davis Henslee born Ellis Co. '79; Molly married my gf Arvellor Henslee's uncle Milton Henslee and Joe married Bertie Whisenhunt who was the sister to Wm Cogburn, my grt gf and husband of Jennie. This line is all multi-related to me and various lines so would surely like to find more on it, making this find after so long very exciting! The census shows J. M. Davis born in TX Oct '81(I already had 10/24/81) living in household of his father J. J. Davis born TN 4/1835; he was a farmer and parents were born TN & NC. They are living near 1) C.H. Davis born SC 1871 and wife Annie & son Trenhalnen? b. 1895 2) B. O. Davis born TX 1895 and his mother Z. E. Davis born TN 1854 3) H.A. Davis born SC 1864, wife A.C. & children Mary L (SC 1884), Henry (TX '91), & Laura (TX '96). They are actually living next door to a Woodward family listed as J. S., "daughter" and Denis, "son-in-law"; they were born 1871 & '68 and all of their parents born in TN; and "grandaughters" Cora Bertie and Sister; no "head of household" listed? Could someone shed some light and/or clues on John J and perhaps his connection to these other Davis families? I had always worked under the assumption he must have moved to Hood Co. because he had family there. I have a Laura Davis w.o. birthdate listed already in my family tree who married Wm Matlock b. 1888; Wm was a nephew of my grt gm Lucinda Matlock Henslee. Laura was a sister I think it was (some info boxed up from recent move) to Judge Davis of the pioneer Davis family which was one of the earliest settler families of Hood Co. per the County site. I found a page on the Hood County Genealogical web site listing information about James Bradley ALLISON and Willis ALLISON. I am trying to clarify some genealogical information about my family and James Bradley is my great, great grandfather. The little information that I have on James has him born 26 Nov 1829 in Tennessee, marrying Frances Paralee RADFORD b 18 Aug 1843, MO) on 6 Dec 1863 and dying 9 Aug 1891 in Lipan, Texas. There are two children listed, Willis (b 22 Dec 1864, MO) and my great grandfather Robert Lee (b 27 Aug 1875, TX). However I have found a James Bradley ALLISON born 25 Dec 1829, married to a Myra JACKSON (b 1828) on 1 Jan 1852 in Missouri. They have 5 children; Rebecca (b 1852), Martha (b 1854), George (b 1856), Nancy (b 1857), and Birdie (b 1860). This listing has James dying 9 Aug 1891 in Texas as well. Neither listing mentioned an additional marriage. If any has further information about James Bradley or this line of Allison's in Hood County, which appears to be strong, I would appreciate hearing from them. This stone gives the dates as born 17 June 1850 died 1 May 1890 Mason. In Pioneers Rest Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas is a large stone with the identical name and information. I am looking for information about my great grandmother, Jane(Jennie) Elizabeth Hudson. She went by Jennie. She and five of her children moved to Hood County after her husband, William Wilson Hudson's death. They came to Texas about 1895. One daughter, Ada May Hudson had married Henry Walters and, I think, had already moved to Hood County. The other children were William Warner Hudson who died January 5, 1896 and was taken back to AR for burial,M. Maude Hudson, Oscar Milford, Hudson, George Edwin Hudson, (my grandfather) and Ernest Eugene Hudson. They lived in or near Puluxy. Jennie died in 1930 in Ranger, TX, so at some point she moved from Hood County. M. Maude Hudson married Samuel Brooks on August 28, 1899 and had twin boys, Lattice and Loyce Brooks, born Jan. 31, 1903. She later married John Calvert (date ?) and Elisha Moore on June 17, 1945. Oscar Milford Hudson married Bessie Harrell on NOv. 20,1921 and had 2 children, Harrell Milford and Geraldine Gertrude Hudson. George Edwin Hudson married Lena Hudson and they had 6 children, two of whom were born in Puluxy, Jennie Mattie Hudson, born July 118, 1909; and Rex Orson Hudson (my father) born, March 26, 1912. Ernest Eugene Hudson who married MOlly Pearl Boyd, August 8, 1920. They had 3 children born in Tolar, Minnie May Hudson, born Sept 20, 1921, Bobbie Jean Hudson, born October 29, 1931, and Mary Lou Hudson, born April 12, 1973. I have found references to the old Hudson homeplace which I think was in Puluxy or near there.

In the year 1999 a man by the name of Bud Hardcastle and his crew came to Granbury to exhume a grave. An event that turned into a circus. Searching for Jesse James also known as J Frank Dalton. In the process of his digging and recovery of the body of Henry Holland the after math of it all resulted in a tombstone being tossed to the side. It has been 2 years since the dig and the marker of J Frank Dalton still resides in the bushes. At what point and time does the Historical Society of Granbury or any other caring person choose to place the stone over the grave of J Frank Dalton. Hardcastle claims it wasn't his responsibility to place the stone back where it came from. The he claims he wouldn't blame Granbury for not putting the marker back as no one is really sure where JFD is burried. Yet, he is on a gen forum board and brags that the body of JFD was next to the one armed man he dug up by mistake. I was wondering who I would contract to find out how to get the marker back in it's location. Now that the dig has been over for 2 years. Thank you Carol James Holmes

His family came to Tarrant Co., TX, in 1870/1871, and he worked in Parker Co., about that time. Sarah, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Rhoades and Elizabeth Jane Lavender, was born 11/24/1857 in TX. Her family was in western Hood County and eastern Erath County from 1868-1872. I am looking for information about these McCleskey, Lavender, and Rhoades families, specifically where the families were in 1870. I have not found them in the 1870 Hood, Parker, Erath or Tarrant County census. I have looked extensively at all the county records and in the county libraries. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am researching my Great-grandfather, Samuel Rhoads Simmons (1850-1931) and his wife, Annie H. Simmons (1862-1932). They had a son, Roy Simmons who was born 1895 in Whitt, Parker Co., Texas. NEWTON L. COOPER moved to Texas in 1871, settling in Granbury where he was a member of the law firm of RUSSELL, COOPER & LEMMON. In later years, a son, Hugh joined his Father in the law firm under the name "N. L. Cooper & Son. Newton L. Cooper was a first cousin to my Grandfather, Samuel Cooper in Parker County. I am trying to find out what happened to Hardie/Hartie HALL who was a daughter of John T. HALL and Lenorha DOUGHTEN. She was born in either Tennessee, Arkansas, or Missouri in 1874. Other siblings were Sarah HALL, Charles HALL, Nashville D. HALL, John Polar HALL, sister I. O. D. HALL, Teddy T. HALL, and Thomas "Tommy" HALL. The father John T. Hall died in 1884 shortly after moving from Marion Co., AR. His wife Lenorha delived their last child about 3 months before John T. HALL died. Lenorha DOUGHTEN HALL died in 1891. Soon after that Charles HALL was awarded the guardianship of the minor children. Hartie HALL was not one of them. She would have been about 18 by then and probably married. I think she married a man named Fred but don't know his last name. They lived later in Rhome, and Weatherford, Texas. If anyone can help me find this last name it will be a miracle. I am looking for information on Robert L. MORRIS and Candy Ator Shaver Morris. Candy is the daughter of Matthias Dout Ator. Robert was born in 1852. Candy in 1856. Candy was married to Seaborn R. Searching TIDWELL line of families who were early residents of Hood County. Marvil and Matilda TIDWELL were early arrivals from Tennessee. They left a long line of Tidwells in the county. Marvil's brother, Dillard Hardwick TIDWELL, was among that group. He married Sarah "Sallie" CALLAHAN. They had nine children. They were living in Tolar in 1906. My Wood ancestors (Charles & Margaret Lindsey Wood) traveled from Louisville, Winston Co., MS in 1866, with 4 children, aged 6-12). My Parker ancestors (Peyton & Nancy Ann Elizabeth Hobbs Parker) traveled from Leake Co., MS in 1866, with 3 children, aged 1-7. Winston Co is just northeast of Leake Co. The Parkers settled in Aquilla, Hill Co. The Woods settled first in Steiner Valley, Hill Co., then moved across the river to Fowler, Bosque Co., TX In 1888, Columbus Campbell Parker, age 26, married Ella Wood, age 18. Did their parents become friends while traveling in the same wagon train? Did Columbus fall in love with Ella when she was but a wee girl, and wait for her to get old enough to marry? We do know that none of Charles Wood's many siblings, nor Margaret's siblings traveled from Mississippi. We know that none of Nancy Hobbs family traveled from Mississippi. We know nothing about Peyton Parker... no parents or sibs... so we DON"T know if he had any relatives that made the trip. But, we DO know that in those days, you didn't just up and move to Texas all by yourself, with a wagon load of young'uns. Both families MUST have made the trip as part of a wagon train. Now, I'm thinking that there was a good possibility that they came on the same wagon train. Are there any of you out there, that feel like your ancestors might have arrived in Hill/Bosque/Parker/Erath/Somervell/Johnson/Tarrant/Hood/Palo Pinto/Stephens/McLennan Counties in 1866, on a wagon train that had come through the counties of Winston & Leake Co., Mississippi? My husband's grandfather was Hal Dean Eaves, born in Tolar in 1914. I know his mother was Lola Bell Perry (also of Tolar) and his father was William Eaves of Austin. In the tax records, there appears an Isaac Eaves in the late 1800s, but I don't know if he would be related. Gr.grandpa Eaves never spoke of his family and led his wife and children to beleive that he had none. It wasn't until after he died in 1972 that they knew otherwise. I would like to post a correction to the biography of Maxfield F. Henslee which was from TX Under Many Flags. ..."and Orville, born May 11, 1894, a farmer in Taylor County, married Dillie Colesburn and has two daughters." This is my grandfather; he was the youngest of Maxfield and Lucinda's children. However, his name was Arvellor and he married Dollie Cogburn. They had 3 daughters. I have seen the Orville and different variations of "Dillie's" name several different places; it is a common error from what original source I do not know. At any rate, just wanted to post it for anyone's information in researching this family. After moving from Taylor Co. to Tarrant Co. where they resided many years, they returned to Hood Co. and are buried in the Acton Cemetery. A little additional info on this family: Maxfield F's father, Maxfield C. or G., was buried in Menard Co. Gilbert Henslee also returned to Hood Co and is buried at Fall Creek.

I am looking for any information about my great grandfather, Henry Albert Thompson. I know he was in Hood Co. on the 1900 census. He is listed with his wife Nora and several child- ren. He was a Baptist minister. He was born in 1861 in MO. and died in 1935. I would like to know if any of the Baptist churches in that area have him listed as a Pastor during that time. My great grandfather was Winfield Scott Chambliss. He had a sister who lived in Hood County around the time that his first wife (my great grandmother) died. That was about 1882. I do not know her name or where she died, but they have not turned up on a census. Maybe they were living in Hood County. I am looking for info on the WADE family that was in the 1880 Hood Co. census. The family consisted of Henry H. WADE, wife Eliza J. and their 4 children. Also living in the household was, according to the census a Nathen Fleener family. This Nathen was actually, Nathan FANNING, I do not know why the name was spelled differently. Searching for info on Charles W. MILLER and family in the 1900 census of Hood Co. According to census, Charles W was born July 1856 in Arkansas; wife Mary M,born Aug 1856 in Texas, and eight children. He was a grocer. Charles and Mary had been married 24 years. I believe this couple is the Charles W MILLER and Mary M COXWELL who married in Falls Co. Texas on 30 November 1876. If so, the information on her place of birth and that of her parents in the census is incorrect. Children in the census were Alvin J, Mittie A, Correne E, Frank A, Effie M, Maggie M, Lucy L, and Willie G. Am researching all COXWELL families in the South.

For some time I've had a copy of Hood County History in Picture and Story. I haven't picked it back up since being told my grt-grt Davis gf moved to Hood Co. after the death of his wife. On p. 21 it says "Various valleys along the river derived name from early settlers, as Hightower valley, from Joshua Hightower, Dawes valley from John Davis...". My grt-grt gf was a John Davis and I'm wondering if this is the one; is the Dawes spelling accurate of misprint for Davis? Can anyone tell me where Dawes Valley is in Hood Co. or anymore about this John Davis, etc? My John Davis is widower of Ann Pritchard Davis and reportedly died around 1875 perhaps (Ellis Co) at which time I'm told he brought the 3 children, Jennie, Molly (who married Milt Henslee of Hood Co), & Joe Monroe to Hood Co. Mary Elizabeth "Molly" DAVIS married Milton H. HENSLEE in Hood Co. 1889. My previous info was that she and Milton moved to Merkel and died in Taylor Co. where they and Milton's 2nd wife are buried probably at Rose Hill; however, recent information provided by another Henslee descendant is that she is actually buried in Acton (I do not have a death date); does anyone know about this? Another "new" cousin who is a descendant of Milton & Molly has told me she was full bloodied Indian and now 2nd hand info from another indicates they have been told also the Davis family was Indian. I am especially interested in this as she is double kin; not only is Molly my paternal grt gf's sis-in-law, but she also was the sister of my maternal grt-gm, of course making her Native American as well and I had never heard this. Is there someone out there who can give me even a clue on Molly or any of the family? Molly was born 1879; probably Ellis Co. as older and younger siblings Jennie and Joe Monroe DAVIS were. Jemima COWAN's people came to Texas via the Trail of Tears from Georgia. It is thought JEMIMA COWAN was born in Texas in about 1848. Looking find if the 1850 Census, lists JEMIMA. She married JESSE GILES KEATHLEY, about 1868, and they had a son, THOMAS JEFFERSON KEATHLEY, in 1869. JEMIMA died in childbirth in 1869. I am trying to find some genealogy information on John Bell Hood. My mother's name is Barbara Wilson Hood and her parents were John Hood and Mary Wilson Hood. I am trying to get information on our great-grandfather Rev. leander p PAINTER. He served as pasteur to Rock Church in the early 1870's. Rock Church is located in Hood County,Tx. Leander Painter was born in Gilmer Co. Ga. in 1847. He died in Hood Co., Tx. Oct. 19, 1885. He was the son of Alston Painter and Elmira Mull Painter, who were born in N.C. abt. 1815/16. I would like to contact someone who could tell me the date Leander married and who he married. His first wife and our great-grandmother, was Hannah. What was her maiden name and who were her parents. I have been told that she was born in Mo. about 1850. She died in childbirth after having two daughters. Cynthia and Mary. my grandparents are listed in 1910 soundex for hood county. Grandfather is John L. Wylie-Grandmother is Lucy Theodoshia (Graham)(Price)Wylie.John was born 1866, Lucy T.born 1877. In 1892 my father Walter (nmi) was born to them in Fannin County on the Red River. Then he disappears and my grandmother married John Price and had 3 children ie; Pleasie P Price b.1896,Harbert b.1901 and Etta b.1903. Then she is back with John Wylie and has son Roy Lee or Leroy b. 1910. These are the children listed in soundex. They later had 2 more children Floyd & maudie .1914 and Aunt Maudie says he died before her birth in 1914. John had 2 known brothers. SSamuelL. b.1873 and is in soundex for Tarrant County 1910.His brother Jack Wade Wylie was in theather/Vaudeville and was last seen in a play in Fort Worth, Texas in 1928.There must be a reason they lived in Hood Cty. I have an article entitled "CAPTAIN PETER GARLAND, FRONTIERSMAN" from the Hood County Texas Genealogical Society written by Barbara Thorp Wilkins. At the conclusion, it indicates that it was scanned from the HCGS Newletter #16, Nov. 1987. In the article she talks about "Strong evidence that Peter Garland's emigrant ancestor to the US was another Peter Garland, descenced from a Sir John Garland of Sussex, England". This "ancestor Peter" is my husband's ancestor, also known as, Peter Garland, Mariner, I believe. I would like very much to contact Barbara Wilkins or members of her family. My great grandparents John Hill MCCLESKEY and Sarah Ann RHOADES were married in Hood County 3/11/1876. Sarah's parents may have been Thomas Jefferson RHOADS and Elizabeth Jane LAVENDER RHOADS. I have searched Hood County records and find no record of any LAVENDER or RHOADES/RHODES/RHOADS families in Hood County at that time. John McCleskey's family probably lived in Tarrant County, and Sarah's mother may have lived in Coleman County in 1876. Sarah's father was killed by bandits at Brazos Crossing probably about 1868-1870. I would like to find out if there is such a place in Hood County. I've been trying to find out information about my grandmother, Cora Emma Jean Young, whose mother was a daughter of Pleasant THORP. She was born in Thorp Springs in 1887, the youngest of seven children. Her mother died in childbirth, and her father was apparently so upset that he left for Calfornia or Alaska. She went to live with her brother, Henry Young in Wichita Falls. Later she went to California, married my grandfather(William Corridan)and returned to Thorpe Springs on several visits (the latest about 1923). If anyone has more information, I would appreciate it. I am interested in the Hugh M. SWIFT found in Hood Co., Texas, tax records between 1877 and 1939. The records also mention an L. B. SWIFT. A Hugh M. SWIFT married Rachel EVANS in Bates Co., MO, in 1878, and an L.B. SWIFT married J. N. GRENWELL in Jasper Co. MO, in 1873. Are these the same Hugh M. and L. B. SWIFT in Hood Co. TX? I am a descendant of Hugh SWIFT, born in about 1814 in Kentucky, and migrated to Dallas County, Missouri, in the late 1830s. Family lore is that he went to Texas in the 1870s. He along with his two brothers, George and James left Alabama sometime before 1885. My grandfather, John M., was born in Mississippi in 1885. About six years later, 1891 or 1892, the family moved to Texas. Ben Franklin settled in or around Klondyke, TX; James or George settled in Granbury, TX; and the other settled, I believe, in or around Cleveland, TX.

Garland Cross married my Grandmother and later divorced. But I would like to know more about him and I was led here. I believe Garland cross lived at 76048 Granbury,Hood, Texas. He was born Dec.8 1908 and died Jan. 1981. His SS# is 525-32-2655. As far as I know this may be fathers stepdad. It would mean alot to know mor about him. He married my Grandmother in Marfa, Texas and had lived in Presidio, Texas. They married July 28, 1943. This is all i know. But he played a part in my Dad's life and i want to know what happened to him after he left or divorced. Did he marry again? Is this the man who i am searching for. Did he have children? I am looking for info on Edwin Blackburn DAVIDSON b. Jan.29, 1820 in TN, d. May 14, 1893 Hood Co. He and wife Sarah Harker Hastings left Benton Co., AR after 1850 and show in the 1870 Hood Co. census with children John, William, Matta, and Harve Blackburn. Edwin became a doctor and is listed as "Dock" Davidson in the 1870 census. They had lost 4 previous children, 3 in 1848 and 1 in 1856. Looking for information about first husband of Frances ASTON (b. 25 Mar 1884, Hood Co) who lived with her parents in Hood Co until they died in late 1890's. I have some update information about Loveless Savage Ginn II, second ownere of Comanche Peak, Hood Co. He was a son of Thomas Madison Ginn III and Mary Elizabeth Parsons , and married Flora Isabelle Slaughter September 12, 1897 in Hood Co. To them were born 4 children ( Thelma Irene, Victor L.,Leta Bell, and William Thomas. Loveless was born October 17, 1877, and died November 6, 1944. He and his wife are buried at the Granbury Cemetery in Granbury TX. Their youngest child , Thomas Madison, died when less than 2 years old of locked bowells. He is buried by his parents. Thelma Irene married Williard Bently Aubrey, Victor L. married Inda L. ? , Leta Bell married Don Cherry I have one child listed for Thelma Irene and it is Marious ( not sure of the spelling ) no dates. I also have a Thomas Leroy Ginn who married Mattie L. Gideon. They are buried at the Lower Fall Creek Cemetery near Granbury, Hood Co. I have been told that the following families came to HOOD COUNTY around 1867: DANIEL, CHERRY, FITZHUGH, AND WATKINS. Does anyone know anything about the DANIEL/MCDANIEL family? I cannot find them listed in the 1870 census.

CREEK,Jean. Born in Hood County approx 1933. Later lived in Ralls, TX - 1949 & 1950. This is the only information I have about her. Other than her parents names were Mr & Mrs Marvin Crisp (possibly a step-father?)
