I am seeking information on the Charles Ewell family. Especially son Scott Ewell and Alvah J. Biggs (that lived with them as a son from 1882 to 1903).

Charles Ewell was a "second hand dealer" according to census records. Scott Ewell and "adopted" brother A.J. Biggs move to Sanderson, Texas area around 1900. Brother of Biggs (H.S. Biggs) was killed in Sanderson May, 1903.

I am workiing on the genealogy of my family. Three different families came from Hood Co. - the Payton family, the Foster family, the Collins (Collings) family are all in my family. These 3 families intermarried, and presently I am searching for Julia A. Collins who married FRank Russell Payton.   They had one daughter--Ruth Merle-possibly Merle Ruth.   I know that Frank and Julia were divorced between 1920-1930 (as per Census).  Recently I received info that Julia married an Unknown Pettijohn, and later an Unknown Childchester.   I have not been able to find either.  Yesterday while searching thru the Internet (and found the Hood Co., website, and it is fabulous!!!) I ran across an article on the Collins Family of Hood Co.,TX.   The end paragraph says related families----and it includes both Pettijohn and Childchester (no first names)., but it does not say how they are related to the Collins.   I am just wondering, if perhaps, you might have some info on Julia and their child, Ruth Merle.    The Paytons and Fosters were both my grandparents who have long since died, and I am trying to trace my roots.

Any information that you might have on  Alonzo Payton and wife Sophronia, James D. Foster, Hugo Foster, Julia A. Collins (who married Frank Russell Payton-son of Alonzo) would be so greatly appreciated.   My gg grandfather James D. Foster was mayor of Hood Co. in the 1890's.   His wife Melcena died in 1888 and he remarried a Sarah (Sallie) Eaton---and I am searching any info on her.

They married in Oct 1888.

Any info you might have would be so helpful.    I am willing to pay for services rendered if you will let me know in advance the cost of searching.   My E-mail is:    jdpost28@cox.net

Thanks so much---and I love your web site.

Hello,

We are trying to locate a birth certificate for the person listed below:

Father's name: Charles Ezekiel Williams

Birth Date: July 1, 1886

Place: Hood County Texas

Parents: John Williams and Amanda Clay

Apparently Mr Williams' name was not found in the Texas Vital Statistics

so we've also inquired with the Hood County Clerk. They also suggested

that we contact your site. Any suggestions or directions?

Thank you,

Audie Goo for Harold G Williams and Peggy N Williams (children of

Charles E Williams)

Your request for a search of the Texas vital statistics indexes was

received by the staff of the Texas State Library and Archives

Commission.

The results of our search are given below.  If needed, you are welcome

to submit another request, specifying up to five additional searches.

Search #1:  Williams, Charles E.

INDEX:  Texas Births, Delayed

NAME LOCATED:  not found

COUNTY:

DATE:

CERTIFICATE NUMBER:

If records were recorded at all before 1903, they were recorded in the

county clerk's office in the county of birth.  Many people whose births

were not officially registered at the time had records established later

in life. These records are called probate, or delayed birth

certificates.  The Genealogy Collection has indexes to a portion of

these delayed or probated birth certificates.  The Bureau of Vital

Statistics and the county clerk's office must be contacted directly for

all other possible delayed or probated records.

Since registrations of births at the state level were not consistent

until into the 1920s and 1930s, you may find the following information,

which usually applies to births prior to 1880, to be helpful.

Records of births from this period, if registered at all, were kept in

the Office of the County Clerk in the county where the individual was

born, so you will want to contact that office.   A complete listing of

County Clerk addresses can be found on the Texas Economic Development

Web site at:

               http://www.tded.state.tx.us/guide/cntyclrklisting.html

The Texas GenWeb project may also be of help to you.  Visit their county

index and see if your county is listed.  The index can be found at:

               http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/#cindex

We hope this information will be helpful to you.

Hello,

My brother in law (who does not  have email access) and my wife are

trying to get a birth certificate of their father in order to obtain a

US Passport. My wife and sister in law already have passports but for

some reason the passport agency in New Orleans is requiring their

father's birth certificate to prove the father's citizenship, probably

since they were all born outside of the US (Mexico). But their father,

Charles E. Williams, was born in 1886 in Hood County Texas. How or who

do we contact for a birth certificate as at the time of birth, the only

reference was Hood County, Texas? I noticed that in the Archives &

Manuscripts Vital Statistics that registration of births in 1886 may not

have been required nor are there any micro film reels for births in Hood

County during the 1886 period according to "Hood County Records

Available on Microfilm from University of Texas-Arlington".  Any help or

direction would be appreciated.

I hope to connect with anyone researching these families that settled in the Hood County area of Texas in the early to mid-1850's. Because of the family relationship they may even have come together though I've never seen infomation to that effect.
Absalom GREGORY & Nancy HULL GREGORY
Malachi GREGORY & Catherine REEVES GREGORY
Isaac Monroe EATON & Dorcus GREGORY EATON
John Alexander MCCREARY & Sally Ann GREGORY MCCREARY
Levi HUFFSTETLER & Mary Polly GREGORY HUFFSTETLER (she may have come alone with their children)
These are all the children of John GREGORY and his wife Dorcus of Washington Co., MO., as documented by her will.
I have a lot of information on their descendents and am looking to flesh out the story of the family.
Also, I understand there are a lot of GREGORY graves at the Acton Cemetery in the area of the Elizabeth Crockett Memorial. Would love to know who they are. A daughter of the EATON's above was the last wife of Robert Preston CROCKETT, but I suspect those graves are there not due to any family relationship but because these people listed above came to the Hood Co. area at about the same time the Crockett's came and so were old pioneers. Thanks!

WHITWORTH, Jasper Newton and Albert Newton.

Jasper born 7 Jun 1839 in Pulaski Co.,( now Camden Co. )MO.

He and his wife, Artimicia, and their six children moved to Hood Co, TX. around 1877. Later four more children were born in Hood Co. Jasper died 7 May 1888 in Lipan or Granbury. Family states he was buried on 9 May in the Allison Cem., Lipan. Family attempted to locate grave site, but many stones have been destroyed.

Albert Newton died at age about 9 from " fittes" and is buried also in Allison Cem. Same results in trying to locate grave marker.

After the death of Jasper, his wife and remaining family moved to nearby Red Rock, Bastrop Co., TX.

Questions- 1) Based on tax records this Whitworth family was in Hood Co. from 1877- 1889. By what means of travel did most immigrants from MO. arrive in Hood Co.?

2) Any leads to verify deaths and burials of Jasper and Albert from official records. I have Bible data etc.

Appreciate your consideration of these concerns.

I am the son of Lewis Green, b. in Hood County in 1903. He was the son of Thomas Parish Green and Mary Frances Roberts Green, and the grandson of Barnet "Barney" Green, Sr., and Mary Jane Porter Green. I would like to find the location of the unmarked grave of Mary Jane Porter Green in the Nubbin Ridge Cemetery. She was the mother of Barnet "Barney" Green, Jr. who is buried, along with his wife, Mary Ford Green, at Nubbin Ridge. Many years ago, my late father told me that Mary Jane was buried in the plot of Barney and Mary. He recalled that she died in about 1910.

Would Much Apprediate Any Help,

Howdy, My wonderful husband and I have purchased 5 acres in July in Hood County just outside the city limits of Granbury. We live pretty much at the dam of Squaw Creek Reservoir, just off Pear Orchard, near the base of the Comanche Peak (mountain). In walking our land, we have uncovered very interesting items which lend us to wondering about the past, who lived there? what happened there? In the thickest area, we have found old large glass bottles and a "fence inside a fence" which we suspect to be an old moonshine still. We discovered an old, bent up, rusty license plate (1956, 7E1 465). I do know from our survey when we bought the home, the land is part of the J.C. Grace land, for survey purposes. I presume he owned it a long time ago. We have bought a metal detector to explore some more. Mainly my question is: is there a way to find out the history of who owned that property? what did they do there? how long did they live there? where was the home if there was one? what d!

id they do for a living? I have contacted the tags office there on Pearl about the plate, they directed me to another gov office, and subsequently I was redirected twice more, no one able to assist me. The ladies on Pearl St told me that the license plate was not in their database at all but thought the other contact might be able to help which they were not. I have also contacted Hood County News who is coming out on Sunday to interview us but I don't know if he can help us in the research of the history....? Maybe...? Really we are just curious and would love to know more, if there is any way to research this. We are very happy with our property and love it so much. Many thanks for your time :-)

Greetings,

I was doing research on Confederate Veterans buried in Hood county. Using a site called angelfire/Randy's Tx graves, etc. I came upon a listing for Hood Co. However, the list only goes through the "C"s and barely into the "D"s. Could you provide me the entire list. This is a project for the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I am the Tx Division Aide-de-Camp and have been working on this project for 4 years. I have formatted the 21 pages I used in the above site. I really would like to have the rest of the entries. Apparently there are a lot of those old vets buried in Hood Co. And appropriately, since the name of the county is Hood.

Thank you very much.
