ISAAC F. COWAN
1822 - 1901
On August 31, 1901, at 10 O'clock p.m. the Death Angel visited our masonic circle and plucked for his victim our aged brother, Isaac F. Cowan age 79 years, one month and seventeen days, a member of Paluxy Lodge no. 393 A.F. and A.M. It brought sadness to many a heart and a pall of gloom closed down upon our entire community that caused us to realize that a friend indeed was gone. No cry of suffering ever turned unaided from his door. He had nothing too good for a true friend. We have even known him to suffer great loss in aiding his neighbor trying to save his own.
As he was one of the pioneers of this country, having come here in 1859, we honor him as a true benefactor. His voice was always against lawlessness and theft. He was one who assisted in clearing this country of its many dangers and disadvantages, making civilization possible and homes for the many peaceful and happy. We laid him to rest in Rock Church cemetery, and as we turned from his tomb consigning his body to the eary [sic] and his spirit to God, let us go forth as a lodge --
1. To emulate all those good traits and principles which characterized his life and conduct;
2. We would emphasize as a lodge that the country sustains in him the loss of a good citizen, the community a true neighbor, and his family a faith husband and father;
3. We would ask that a copy of this be spread on our minutes, a copy given his family, and a copy be sent to the Granbury news, Democrat, Stephenville Empire, and [Cleburne] tribune with a request to publish.
