GENE JORGENSON

Gene Jorgenson was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, February 28, 1930. He was converted in a summer revival at the age of 14 but was not baptized until six years later when he was baptized by Rev. Loftus Nunley in the Gatlin Baptist Church of Duncan, Oklahoma.

During the Korean conflict he served in the U.S. Air Force and surrendered to preach while still in the service. Before his discharge he had served six months in his first pastorate. He was ordained to the work of the ministry by the Beacon Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, Texas. Members of the ordaining council included the pastor, Rev. Edgar Carlisle, Rev. A.J. Jorgenson, a brother of the candidate, and the deacons of the Beacon Church. He has served as pastor of eight churches in Texas. While pastor at Lipan he served as Moderator of Paluxy Association 1960-61. He received his college training in Hardin-Simmons University, and his theological training in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Gene married Miss Blanche Howard of Marlow, Oklahoma, in 1950. They have one daughter, Karen Sue, born August 21, 1955, in Merkel, Texas.

Comments: What a surprise to acccidentally run across a page about my father, Rev. Gene Jorgenson, on your web-site. I thought I would update anyone interested in my parents' whereabouts. They live in Marlow, Oklahoma and are doing great. I know they would love to hear from anyone who remembers them. My dad supposedly "retired" from the pastorate in 1993 from First Baptist Marlow, however, he has been interim pastor of at least 5 churches since then (including Eastside Baptist in Marlow at this time) and supply preaching around Texas and Oklahoma every other Sunday he has been available. He has prepared a series of sermons on "The Second Coming" that have been in demand in a revival setting so he has also been busy with those. Fortunately, I live only about 30 minutes away in Chickasha, OK so it is a joy to be close to them, although I can't possibly "keep up" with them. They are amazing grandparents to my 3 children and are both as wonderful as you all remember them. How nice that someone remembered them on your website and their ministry in Texas. Our times in Texas remain a precious memory for all 3 of us. God bless you all.
