ROBERT FANNING HOLLOWAY

1867 – 1939

 

 

Robert Fanning Holloway, educational administrator, son of John T. and Mary (Reid) Holloway, was born at Pritchett in Upshur County, Texas, on February 24, 1867. He graduated from Add-Ran Christian University (now Texas Christian University) in 1892. Shortly thereafter he became principal of Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. In 1896 he married Lou Ella Clark, daughter of Randolph Clark. They had two children. He taught mathematics at Add-Ran Christian University, Add-Ran Jarvis College at Thorp Spring, and John Tarleton College (now Tarleton State University) at Stephenville. He was superintendent of schools at Comanche, 1911-19; president of Randolph College at Cisco, 1922-25; and superintendent of schools at Ranger, 1925-34.


From 1934 until his death, Holloway was manager and secretary-treasurer of National Educators Finance Corporation, an investment company owned and operated by and for teachers. He helped organize the University Interscholastic League and the Texas State Teachers Association; he served the latter as director and vice president. He was a board member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and director of music in the Christian Church. He died on December 19, 1939, in Fort Worth and was buried in Stephenville.
