house (John, Sarah, Barsheba, and

John Hood, his wife
Sarah, and their 4 children are listed on the 1850 Itawamba County,
Mississippi, Census, District Number 7, page 416, dated October 19, 1850. Also living with them was Edmond Crow, a
25-year-old farmer from Virginia. On
August 21, 1851, John Hood performed a marriage ceremony between Edmond Crow
and Penney E. Allen.
John Hood, along with
William Hood, performed numerous marriage ceremonies in Itawamba County,
Mississippi during the 1850s.
Apparently, the Hood
and Allen families were quite close.
Three of John and Sarah Hood's children married Allens. Mary Barsheba Hood married R.T. Allen,
William Hood married Lenora Allen, and Elmira Hood married Otis Bunyan Allen.

was written by Lynn Allen in 2002:
"My earliest
memories of my Eichler aunts, uncles, and cousins involve Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and Possum Kingdom Lake. It
seems that we went to Uncle Don and Aunt Jo's in Mineral Wells a lot for
Thanksgiving. I'm sure it was because
of deer hunting season. I think the
guys left for hunting as soon as dinner was eaten! Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. We always had a turkey and a ham, which really impressed me for
some reason. Aunt Pat always made her
famous oyster dressing. I didn't care
for it, but I sure expected it to be there, and it wouldn't have been
Thanksgiving without it. We usually
watched the Cowboys play football afterwards.
"When I was with
the Eichler bunch, I usually wound up playing with my cousins, Debbie and
Laurin. Donna was just enough older
that she didn't have time for us, but I thought she was beautiful and so grown
up. Jerry Don also seemed so much
older, and he was always going and doing things with his friends. Debbie, Laurin, and I had lots of fun. I recall a small table that Debbie made out
of soda pop cans. I thought that was
pretty neat.
"Christmas at
Aunt Pat's was very special. She would
make the most wonderful sugar cookies and hang them on her Christmas tree. They were decorated so cute with icing,
silver beads, and sprinkles. I would
have to eat one as soon as I arrived.
As a matter of fact, I would eat several over the course of our
visit! Nothing ever seemed to bother
Aunt Pat or Uncle Alton. They were easy
going and seemed to enjoy life. They
also made the most wonderful wine I've ever tasted.
"Our family
gatherings at Possum Kingdom Lake were lots of fun. We all enjoyed the time together. I never knew anything about the Thomas side of the family until
recently. Daddy never talked about his
mother. In fact, when we went to her
grave last summer (June, 2001), that was the first time Daddy had been back
since his mother's death. When Mom and
Dad returned from last summer's Thomas reunion, Daddy had several sheets of
paper with information about the Thomas family. It wasn't much, but it was a start. Although it would have been nice to grow up with the Thomas
family, I'm thankful to finally know everyone."

FOLLOWING WEDDING"
BELLS--Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Louis Allen are on a honeymoon cruise of the Caribbean following their
wedding Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Bells. Rev. Houston L. Garner officiated at the
formal double-ring ceremony. Miss Kathy
Liner of Denison, pianist, presented prenuptial selections and accompanied Mrs.
Mary Lambert of Sherman as she sang.
Mrs. Allen is the
former Virginia Lynn Eichler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Richard Eichler,
Sr. of Bells. Allen is the son of James
Louis Allen and the late Thelma Louise Allen of Red Oak, Oklahoma. Given in marriage by her father, the bride
chose a gown of satin enhanced with imported Chantilly lace. The gown featured a fitted bodice, accented
with pearl and crystal beads and fitted, lace sleeves. The full skirt swept into a train of court
length, enhanced by tiers of alternating lace and illusion. She wore a three-tiered veil of illusion,
edged in Chantilly lace, and attached to a pearl cap. A bouquet of roses, peach carnations, English ivy, baby's breath
and satin ribbon completed her ensemble.
Mrs. Terry Parrish was
matron of honor. She wore a
rose-colored floor-length gown featuring spaghetti straps and a side-slit. A matching jacket and a bouquet of roses and
peach carnations completed the ensemble.
Jay and Clay Eichler were candlelighters. Mickey McCollum was best man.
Ushers were Ronald Allen, Jay and Clay Eichler.
A reception, hosted by
the bride's parents, was held in the fellowship hall of the church. Reception assistants were Ms. Amy Lou
Coffey, Ms. Tepa Pickel, and Mrs. Roy Johnson.
The bride is a
graduate of Bells High School, attended Kilgore College and Grayson County
College, and is currently employed at Texas Instruments. Allen is a graduate from Texarkana High
School and United Electronics Technical Institute. He is employed at Texas Instruments.
A rehearsal dinner was
held in the home of the bride's parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen will make their home in Sherman.
